Things we've learned about Buenos Aires on the first day of our trip:
1. The little bit of the city we have seen so far is a beautiful mix of old and new buildings, with colorful signs, graffiti, and a complete lack of stop signs at intersections;
2. The cab driver was very quiet until we started talking about the classic American rock that was playing on the radio - he became very animated, telling us all about the great concerts in Buenos Aires. Our first real conversation in Spanish!;
3. Keys and locks are differerent, like something out of 1930's Manhattan (see below). The lock requires a specific sequence of actions to unlock/lock the door;
4. Always carrry your passport with you, in case you try to buy groceries with your credit card and they ask for ID, and uh ... you are forced to spend several minutes trying to work out a solution with your very patient 18-year-old cashier who speaks no English, then walk back to your apartment, grab your passport, walk back to the Jumbo (grocery store), wait in line again, and wait while the long-suffering manager re-runs your transaction and hands you your bags. Uh ... I mean, that's what MIGHT happen.
